Gary, have you ever strung up one of your a-frames with heavier
strings and tuned it to A-E-A like a baritone? Is it braced well to
put on heavier strings and do that? If you were going to try that,
what size strings would you use?
Jane showed me the video and asked my opinion. I thought it had
a great voice. But I don’t know if she’s going to stick with the
dulcimer much longer. I’m afraid far too many folks think they can
just join a group, buy a dulcimer and become a great player
without ever having to practice.
By the way, I’m still toying with going to Glen Rose this year. I
haven’t picked out all 4 songs, yet. If I”m fool enough to try it, may
I have your permission to play Highland Rail as one of them? I may
get it on You Tube pretty soon so you can give me a few pointers.
Hope things pick up for you and Les soon. My business is way
down, and has been all year. I may have to either cut it way back,
or shut if down altogether unless things pick up real soon.

Hello: It is a pleasure to hear such a lovely instrument and have it played so wonderfully. Exceptional work!.
I, too, have been playing and building dulcimers for over 30 years. I wanted to ask if you have ever used the “possum bottom” (double bottom) in your designs – I find that it allows a thinner inner bottom and produces a louder, more sonorious sound.
It is interesting how much of your design work mirrors my own – although I am more interested in using the dulcimer in Eastern music and, strangely enough, reggae.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I am a fan of your playing and designwork
Gary, I was curious if you had any need of a builder. I worked at Hoover for the last 5 years or so. I know that you have Les building some. I have thought about contacting you over the years about this. I have some experience. I built an acoustic guitar in 2002. Let me know your thoughts.
Gary. What is the current wait on the star song dulcimer.ie the one feature in video at city of rocks? I am new to dulcimer world but would love to discuss purchasing one
Hello Jr…I am still about a year out to get my current waiting list down to a manageable status. If you want to be notified, send me and email with name mailing address and phone to dulcimercentral@gmail.com. Sorry if it has been a while since you asked this. I’ve neglected to check here for these requests.
